TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo claimed that car free day (CFD) weekends are not only popular among locals, but also residents of neighboring countries, particularly Singapore and Malaysia."People gather and meet up for Car Free Day, and many are from abroad, especially from Singapore and Malaysia. Before they return to their respective countries, they join Car Free Day in Jakarta," Pramono said when met in East Jakarta on Friday, June 5.According to him, car free day has evolved beyond efforts to reduce pollution and is now considered a popular tourist destination in Jakarta. Therefore, Pramono is optimistic that the CFD in Rasuna Said will present a new option for people looking to spend their weekends while exercising."Regarding Car Free Day at Rasuna Said or Kuningan, I'm sure this will become a new favorite for Jakarta residents, allowing them to choose between Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said," he said. According to him, the car free day loop at Rasuna Said is approximately 7 kilometers, while the one at Sudirman-Thamrin is approximately 10 kilometers.Pramono also targeted the Rasuna Said spatial planning could be completed and inaugurated by Jakarta Independence Day. Improvements in the area currently reach 95 percent completion; therefore, he hopes that Car Free Day in the area will become more comfortable than during the trial run a while ago."Hopefully, this will encourage Jakartans to enjoy running and jogging more and live healthier lives. Most importantly, Car Free Day has now become a place for social gatherings," Pramono said.Read: Jakarta Deputy Governor Proposes Expanding Car Free Day to Cut EmissionsClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
