LUCENA CITY, QUEZON, Philippines — A total of 206,633 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region have received P5,000 each in government financial assistance as of June 2 to help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.

In a report Wednesday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region IV-A said beneficiaries included 192,772 tricycle drivers, 13,692 jeepney drivers, and 169 delivery service riders whose livelihoods have been affected by higher oil prices amid the Middle East crisis.

The beneficiaries received the cash aid through a series of payout activities conducted in different localities across the region since distribution began on April 8.
