Greek drivers exhibit some of the most dangerous behavior in Europe, according to the 16th Responsible Driving Barometer released by the VINCI Autoroutes Foundation.
The Ipsos BVA survey polled 12,100 people across 11 countries. Key findings indicated that 66% of Greek drivers use their phones while driving, 41% drive while severely fatigued, and 10% drive drunk.
Yet 97% describe their own driving behavior positively. Among drivers aged 16-24, 48% drive without a seatbelt and 16% admit occasionally driving under the influence of alcohol.
Road safety adviser Nikos Grentzellos called for better driver education, saying families must model safe behavior and traffic safety must be introduced as a school subject.
