The Water Resource Department has reached out to farmers in Palladam belt with a training programme under the Modernisation of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM), a sub-scheme of PMKSY (Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana) for the period 2025-2026.About 350 farmers from six village water users’ association were trained recently by senior officials of WRD, under the pilot project of the M-CADWM Scheme. The farmers practising agriculture in the Palladam Extension Canal with an ayacut of 4,989 hectares will be the beneficiaries of the scheme, requiring contribution of the Central and State Governments in 60:40 proportion, a WRO official said. The scheme envisages making robust backend infrastructure for micro-irrigation by farmers from established source to the farm gate up to one Ha with underground pressurised piped irrigation. The project, which entails the use of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and Internet of Things (IoT) technology for water accounting and water management, will pave the way for increasing water use efficiency at the farm level and raising agricultural production, thereby increasing income, officials explained to the farmers.According to the officials, the purpose of the training was to make the project sustainable through Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) to Water User Societies (WUS) for management of irrigation assets. The training, the official added, was aimed at helping the WUS link with existing economic entities like Farmer Producer Organisation or Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies.
