For those raised in the Huruma slums of Ol Kalou Town, memories of violence, criminal activity, illicit alcohol and moral decay are indelible. Investors once shunned this area, but now, from the Huruma slums to Huruma Estates, things are changing.
Thanks to a Sh400 million grant from the World Bank through the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme, the area is steadily becoming a popular location and a peaceful place to live, despite its former reputation for harbouring criminal gangs and various social ills.
