When June and Will Hearne made the decision to return to New Zealand after 16 years living in the UK, they really only had one destination in mind.

“We love Ōamaru. We’d been here before, and for a New Zealand town, it's unique in that it's got history and beautiful buildings,” says June.

Initially, the couple lived in a villa in the Waitaki town, but it was always seen as a stepping stone into the local market. The big jump finally happened months later when they spotted an advert for the Arthur Street property in the local paper.

“I rang the agent and said, ‘Could it be possible to have a look?’ and she said, ‘How about now?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ So she showed us around and we absolutely loved it.”

Known as Glenside, June describes the property as a “grand gentleman’s residence” of architectural, aesthetic and historical significance.
