MANILA, Philippines – Senators aligned with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano pushed through with a hearing on the flood control scandal under the name of the blue ribbon committee Thursday despite the ongoing leadership dispute in the chamber.

Cayetano, who continues to assert that he remains the legitimate Senate president, earlier said the hearing would proceed as scheduled and vowed to ensure access to the session hall, setting up a potential clash with the camp of Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, which has suspended official Senate business pending the reorganization of committees.

Sen. Pia Cayetano presides over the hearing, but on Wednesday, Sen. Erwin Tulfo was elected as the panel’s head.
