Bathing banned for public at two sections of Thirparappu waterfalls following heavy inflow of water.

With the onset of southwest monsoon, Kanniyakumari district witnessed widespread rainfall on Thursday.According to Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been forecast for Kanniyakumari on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.The widespread rainfall in ghat area has increased the inflow of water in Pechiparai and Perunchani dams in the district. The water level in Pechiparai dam on Thursday stood at 25.87 feet, against the total capacity of the dam at 48 feet. The inflow of water at the dam was 610 cusecs and discharge was 189 cusecs.The water level in Perunchani dam stood at 37.4 feet against a total capacity of 77 feet. The dam recorded an inflow of 562 cusecs with no discharge.In several places across the district intermittent rainfall accompanied by strong winds was reported.At Thirparappu waterfalls bathing was restricted in two section of the falls due to heavy influx of waterIn the last 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Thursday (in mm), Thirparappu recorded the highest of 51.2 mm rainfall.Other parts of the district such as Surulacode witnessed 45.6, Nagercoil 25.2, Balamore 41.2, Colachel 11.4, Thuckalay 9, Adayamadai 32.2, Chittar I 39.8, Chittar II 34.6, Pechiparai 31.2 and Perunchani recorded 29.8 mm rainfall.
