The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) has banned filming in government schools and its premises.Shooting of movies, short films, documentaries, television serials and video recordings for any electronic channels and social media will not be allowed henceforth.Vikas Kishore Suralkar, Commissioner for Public Instruction, has cited safety and privacy of students and the sanctity of a learning environment in schools.“Producers/directors are submitting proposals to the DSEL seeking permission to shoot films, short films, documentaries and serials to be telecast on Doordarshan, inside and on the premises of government schools. In this context, the permission for shooting in schools has been refused, mainly considering the safety of students, disruptions to the learning environment or school activities, and security risks,” read the order.“The privacy and safety of students in schools is the responsibility of headmaster of the respective school and, appropriate measures should be taken to protect this. In addition, some parents do not consent to the publication of their children’s pictures in the media,” the order stated.It has been stated that the refusal of permission for filming in schools is necessary to maintain school security measures and for safety reasons.
