Residents of Neelankarai have raised concerns about the sluggish progress of various infrastructure projects in their locality. They recently submitted a representation to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay seeking the acceleration of the incomplete works. They complained that the construction of the storm-water drain (SWD) network at Kazura Garden has been progressing slowly. G.B. Sabari Das of Kazura Garden Residents’ Welfare Association said the work, which was halted before the Assembly elections, was yet to resume in the locality. Only 70% of the work has been completed so far, and the SWD network has not been interconnected on First Main Road. The storm-water drains are yet to be laid in some of the interior roads.Residents stressed the need for speedy completion of the work ahead of the rainy season to reduce flooding. Some of the interior roads are awaiting blacktopping.Srilakshmi Mohan Rao, the association’s president, said most houses received erratic drinking water supply at low pressure through the old network. Though new lines have been laid, supply from the new overhead tank in the locality has yet to commence. Similarly, the underground drainage project also needs to be finished soon, she added. Nearly 5,000 water connections were proposed to be provided in Neelankarai through the comprehensive drinking water supply scheme at a cost of nearly ₹77 crore.Residents also wanted the Sub-Registrar office in Neelankarai to be relocated from the residential area, citing congestion and haphazard parking of vehicles. The association members also submitted a representation to Sholinganallur MLA P. Saravanan highlighting the issues. Published - June 04, 2026 07:51 pm IST
