Commuters and residents have demanded the removal of the Tasmac outlet functioning near Udayapatti Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) office in Salem Corporation. The Udayapatti TNEB office is functioning in K.N. Nagar at the Udayapatti bypass road junction. Vehicles heading to Namakkal, Madurai, and southern districts, in addition to government and private buses, and other vehicles heading to Attur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, and Chennai use the bypass road junction to reach the Salem-Ulundurpet and Salem-Bengaluru National Highways. Consumers who are visiting the particular Tasmac outlet, situated at this junction, are creating issues regarding vehicular movement.Gopal Anand, a resident of Udayapatti, said that a petrol bunk is functioning opposite to the outlet, along with bakeries and other nearby shops. Mr. Anand added that in the evening, huge crowds gather in front of this outlet and regardless of the day - be it weekends or regular days, people flock in crowds to buy liquor. They park their vehicles, occupying the bypass road, which affects traffic movement. “Most of the people who buy liquor consume it on the roadside and leave the trash at the same place,” he said, urging the government to take steps to relocate the shop immediately.P. Samy, a resident of Ayothiyapattinam Main Road, stated that many accidents took place in the locality, as most individuals drove their vehicles when inebriated. He alleged that the police are neither monitoring nor controlling the crowd. Mr. Samy also recalled incidents where Tasmac customers attacked each other in an inebriated state and many falling on the road after consuming liquor on the roadside. “The district administration should remove this outlet immediately to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of commuters,” he added. When contacted, the Tasmac officials assured that they will look into the issue.
