Celebrating success on and off the field, members of a Chatsworth Football Association women's team proudly display their trophies. The continued growth of women's football within the CFA is creating new opportunities for girls and women to compete, develop their talents and excel in the sport.
World Football Day, celebrated on 25 May, honours the sport’s unique ability to unite people, create opportunities and strengthen communities. With the FIFA World Cup just weeks away – South Africa faces co‑hosts Mexico in the opening match on 11 June – the global spotlight is once again turning to the beautiful game.
In Durban, the Chatsworth Football Association (CFA) is marking the occasion by reflecting on its contribution to grassroots football development and youth empowerment.
Recognised as one of KwaZulu‑Natal’s largest Local Football Associations, the CFA oversees 195 teams across multiple age groups and divisions. From Under‑7 players taking their first steps to competitive Premier Division teams, the association provides structured pathways for thousands of aspiring footballers in Chatsworth and surrounding areas.
World Football Day highlights not only the global appeal of the sport but also its role in building discipline, leadership, teamwork and confidence among young people. The CFA has embraced the growth of women’s football, with 16 female teams competing across Under‑15 and Over‑15 categories, creating greater opportunities for girls and women to participate and excel.
