Phoenix Fifty Years Celebration - Community Group Photo Residents, senior citizens, children, organizers and supporters gather at the Phoenix Child Welfare Charity Fair, showcasing the unity, diversity and community spirit that continue to define Phoenix as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

School campaigns, a telethon, a commemorative book launch and community gatherings have already honoured Phoenix’s 50th anniversary. As celebrations continue, the latest event in this milestone year is the annual Phoenix Child Welfare Charity Fair, which got underway last weekend, drawing thousands of residents to the Rydalvale Grounds. Running from 29 May to 7 June, the fair is the organisation’s flagship fundraiser, with proceeds supporting vulnerable children and families through its social welfare programmes.

Dr. Muni Kooblall, a board member of Phoenix Child Welfare, said the fair plays a critical role in keeping the organisation afloat. “Phoenix Child Welfare operates on a budget of R9 million per annum. Government subsidy covers R4 million, and we have to raise the remaining R5 million ourselves. The Phoenix Fair brings in R1 million. All our fundraising events help ensure our services and facilities remain efficient and effective.”
