A 40-year-old construction worker was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Kadambur Hills here on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) night.Police identified the deceased as Pasuvaraj of Guthiyalathur village. According to officials, he was returning home after work on a two-wheeler and was travelling through a forest stretch between Kadambur and Iruttipalayam when a lone elephant, reportedly concealed in the bushes, emerged onto his path near the 12th Mile area. As he attempted to flee, the elephant attacked and trampled him. He died on the spot.People who noticed the body alerted the Kadambur police and Forest Department personnel. Officials rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was sent to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam for post-mortem examination.Villagers said elephant movement had increased in the area in recent weeks. They expressed concern over the frequent movement of elephants near human habitations and urged the authorities to take preventive measures. Officials advised the public to exercise caution while travelling through forest areas, particularly at night. Pasuvaraj is survived by his wife, Veeramani, a son and a daughter.
