A 62-year-old farmer was trampled to death by a wild elephant that entered his farm at Kamaianpuram village near Thalavadi in Erode district early Sunday morning.According to the officials, the deceased, Basavachetty, was cultivating turmeric, potato and maize on his five-acre farm. Around 2 a.m., he noticed a lone elephant entering the field and attempted to drive it away by flashing a torchlight. The elephant suddenly chased him and trampled him to death.On being alerted by the farmer’s family and residents, officials of the Jeerahalli Forest Range reached the spot along with the Thalavadi police.
