The Chennai police have arrested a woman on charges of stealing gold jewellery from a house where she worked in K.K. Nagar. About 14 grams of the stolen jewellery were recovered from her.According to the police, Subramanian, 42, of P.T. Rajan Salai, K.K. Nagar, lodged a complaint at the K.K. Nagar police station after discovering that a bag containing around 58 sovereigns of gold jewellery was missing from a cupboard in his bedroom on June 2. He told the police he suspected Kala, who was employed as a domestic worker at his residence, of stealing the valuables.Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. They said they questioned Kala and found that she had allegedly stolen the bag of gold jewellery kept in the cupboard.The 48-year-old woman, a resident of K.K. Nagar, was arrested on June 3. During the investigation, officials recovered about 14 grams of gold jewellery from her possession. Further inquiries revealed that Kala had allegedly sold a portion of the stolen jewellery and received money from the sale.Further investigation is under way; the police are on the lookout for another person suspected to be connected to the case.
