The European Commission has unveiled measures designed to help boost local supply chains around cloud infrastructure and semiconductors, amid ongoing concern about reliance on technology from the US and China.

The measures were originally expected in March but have faced contentious negotiations with member state governments and the Commission’s supervisory board.

They risk creating additional friction with the US and China, which have already been critical of previous measures designed to rein in the influence of tech companies from those countries.
