Donald Trump has nominated Douglas Holder to serve as the next United States Ambassador to Bulgaria, a move that now requires approval from the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee before advancing to a full Senate vote, BGNES reported.
Holder is a Republican figure with a long political and lobbying career in Florida but no documented background in foreign policy, diplomacy, defense, or international affairs. His professional trajectory has been firmly rooted in domestic politics and business-related legislative work.
He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014, representing parts of Sarasota County. His entry into elected office came through a highly competitive campaign in which he invested nearly USD400,000 of personal funds, narrowly winning both the primary and general elections. He later secured reelection and gradually aligned himself with the business-oriented wing of the Republican Party.
During his time in the state legislature, Holder focused largely on regulatory and economic issues. He held senior roles including chair of the Regulatory Affairs Committee and chair of the Economic and Tourism Subcommittee, and also served on ethics and elections-related panels.
