US President Donald Trump has nominated Doug Holder, a former Florida state legislator, to serve as the next United States ambassador to Bulgaria. The appointment, announced by the White House, still requires confirmation by the US Senate before becoming official.

Holder, who is 59 years old, served for eight years in the Florida House of Representatives. He is a long-time member of the Republican Party and also has experience in private business. He holds a degree in political science from the State of Tennessee.

Following Senate approval, Holder would take up the post in Sofia after a prolonged vacancy in the position of permanent ambassador. The US embassy in Bulgaria is currently headed by Chargé d’Affaires H. Martin McDowell, who serves as acting chief of mission.
