OTTAWA — The Department of National Defence kept secret how much it paid for a contract with the controversial American tech company Palantir, according to newly released documents that show the deal was worth $30 million more than the government disclosed to Parliament last year.

It’s the latest in an expanding picture of how the Canadian military uses and pays the U.S. company, with tech experts flagging concerns about how the contracts fly in the face of the Liberal government’s effort to achieve “data sovereignty” as Prime Minister Mark Carney tries to reduce the country’s dependence on the United States.
