Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday said the Delhi government will review the draft Delhi Bed & Breakfast Policy, 2026, which was placed in the public domain on May 26 for suggestions.“The old Bed & Breakfast draft was withdrawn last month, and a draft of the new and improved policy was put in the public domain for comments. I am chairing a meeting with officials of the Tourism Department tomorrow morning, and we will take a relook even at this draft policy in light of the fire incident,” Mr. Mishra told The Hindu. The Minister said the draft was framed with a focus on ease of doing business, among other objectives. The framework aims to establish a clear mechanism for the registration, classification, regulation and promotion of Bed & Breakfast (B&B) establishments in Delhi. “To simplify and streamline registration and compliance processes in line with ease of doing business principles. To enhance the availability of tourist accommodation by utilising existing residential housing stock to meet growing demand,” states the policy document. For registration as a B&B, the premises shall be residential in nature, lawfully constructed, and have a minimum of one and a maximum of eight rooms to let out, as per the policy. According to an official, the Malviya Nagar B&B building, where a fire incident killed 21 people, did not have clearance from the Fire Department and had received permission from the Tourism Department to operate as a B&B facility.
