Another opinion poll has confirmed that left-wing former prime minister Alexis Tsipras’ new ELAS has quickly become the country’s most popular opposition party, although the governing conservatives still enjoy a double-digit lead.

But the survey by GPO for private Star television also indicated that the vast majority of Greeks wants to see a change in government.

Only 27.5% of respondents said they would like conservative New Democracy to remain in power after the next Parliamentary elections, while a whopping 69.1% wants to see another administration after two terms in office for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Nevertheless, it’s unclear who could benefit from that.

The poll found that 65.6% of respondents had negative or quite negative feelings regarding Tsipras’ new party and 32.6% positive or quite positive. On political newcomer Maria Karystianou’s fledgling right-of-center Hope for Democracy, 62.4% had negative or quite negative feelings, and 33.6% positive or quite positive.
