The circumstances surrounding the officer's death have generated controversy, with conflicting accounts emerging from security agencies and parties connected to the case.
The Nigeria Police Force has released three officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals unit who were detained in connection with the controversial death of Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Agada Levi Agada.
Sources familiar with the matter told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the officers, Simeon Yakubu Anyebe, Ibrahim Ayefu and Assistant Superintendent Corps (ASC) Iwodi Obochi, were released on Sunday after spending several days in detention.
According to the sources, the officers were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention over alleged torture sustained while in police custody.
The circumstances surrounding their release reportedly followed pressure from the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, and the presidency.
