Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad has commissioned a new aviation fuel station (AFS) with 8,000 KL storage capacity, aimed at enhancing refuelling capacity at the airport. The upgraded facility strengthens Ahmedabad Open Access, described as the country’s largest standalone refueller-based into-plane operation, Ahmedabad International Airport Ltd (AIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, said in an official release on Wednesday.Spread across nearly 27,000 square metres, the fuel farm comprises four storage tanks and a fleet of 17 refuellers, with plans to add two high-capacity refuellers. The expanded capacity is expected to improve fuel availability, reduce aircraft turnaround times and attract greater participation from oil marketing companies in jet fuel supply at the airport. The facility has been designed as a safety- and efficiency-led infrastructure upgrade, featuring advanced fuel filtration systems, RFID-enabled automation for real-time monitoring and tighter control over fuel handling operations. It also includes fire safety and emergency response systems aligned with international aviation standards.SVPIA handled 13.8 million passengers in FY26 and manages nearly 290 air traffic movements daily, the release added.Published on June 3, 2026
