The policy address presented in the Assembly ahead of the new Budget for the financial year is a fraudulent document that deceives the people, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators alleged. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, BJP legislators Rajeev Chandrasekhar, V. Muraleedharan, and B.B. Gopakumar said that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government had adopted its usual approach of placing the entire responsibility for Kerala’s development and economic crises on the Union government. The State government has also concealed the shortcomings of the State administration in the policy document while blaming the Centre for the poor handling of affairs in the State. This was also reflected in the discussions on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s policy address, the legislators said. The presence of three BJP members in the Kerala Assembly has created a new political situation, with the party ready to give a fitting reply to what it described as one-sided allegations against the Union government while ignoring the facts. The leaders also alleged that the State government had failed to effectively implement several welfare and development schemes announced by the Centre in Kerala. They further said that the policy address lacked a clear vision for increasing the State’s own revenue or resolving the financial crisis.Referring to the allegations raised by the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government against the Union government, Mr. Muraleedharan said the LDF was unwilling to present the facts before the people at that time. He added that continuing the same approach in the new Assembly would not be easy, as the BJP now has three members in the House.Mr. Gopakumar said that the policy address was presented without any clear thought on how to increase the State’s own revenue, implement the schemes announced by the new government, or mobilise the finances required for them. The leaders also said that they would raise political discussions in the Assembly based on facts and figures while keeping the State’s development interests in mind.
