New rules will extend visa validity, set processing deadlines and allow temporary protection holders to remain legally in Slovakia for a year after the scheme ends.

Foreign nationals applying for visas and residence permits in Slovakia should benefit from faster procedures under amendments to the Foreigners’ Residence Act approved by parliament on 2 June.

The legislation transposes an EU directive on a single permit for residence and employment. It also addresses the future status of people currently living in Slovakia under temporary protection linked to the war in Ukraine, with the aim of preventing labour shortages after the protection scheme ends.

Faster processing of national visas and residence permits.

Extension of certain national visas from 90 to 120 days.
