In Slovakia, he has a wife, worked here in a managerial position, and wanted to stay. It took only a few disputed actions by the Foreigners’ Police — actions whose legitimacy was also questioned by a court — for him to now face deportation to his native Russia.

Vladislav Novoshinskii left Russia in July 2024 because he opposed the war launched in Ukraine by President Vladimir Putin. He publishes anti-war and anti-Kremlin posts, for which he could face several years in prison if he returns to Russia.

“Neither the Foreigners’ Police nor the Migration Office properly examined what I had published on my public Instagram profile or the consequences I could face because of it. I know of cases of people from my home country who were imprisoned simply for liking similar posts,” says Novoshinskii.
