WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is directly involved in negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the conflict between Washington and Tehran.“He’s involved, absolutely. Yeah, I think they have a lot of respect for him,” Trump said of Khamenei during an interview with Pod Force One.Trump added that he would like to meet the Iranian leader at some point.“We'll probably meet at some point, depending on how it all works out,” he said.The US president also said Iran has agreed not to pursue a nuclear weapon as part of ongoing discussions.“We can't let them have a nuclear weapon … they've already agreed they're not going to have a nuclear weapon, and they can change their mind, but that was one of the things they had to agree to, and that was the big thing,” Trump said.The United States and Israel have cited Iran’s nuclear program and imminent threats from Tehran as key reasons for launching military operations on Feb. 28.While the conflict remains paused under a ceasefire, diplomatic efforts continue through Pakistani mediation to secure a permanent agreement.Trump said negotiations are progressing positively.“Talks with Iran are rapidly evolving, and it's evolving good. It's going to be very good,” he said, adding that “lots of really good things are going to happen.”
