Last year Rada introduced a credit card-sized computer called the Dragon Q6A that looks like a Raspberry Pi, but which features a Qualcomm DragonWing QCS6490 processor and a PCIe 3.0 x2 connector. Now the company has launched a new model that’s a little larger, but which also brings a higher-performance processor and more I/O capabilities. The Radxa Dragon Q8B is available for pre-order and it’s expected to begin shipping by the end of July.Prices start at $149 for a model with 4GB of RAM (which is currently out of stock) or $209 for an 8GB version. But according to Radxa, you can use the code DRAGON-Q8B-OFF to save $45, bringing the price of an 8GB model down to $164.The Dragon Q8B measures 100 x 75mm (3.94″ x 2.95″) and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor. While that’s not exactly a state of the art processor (it was released in 2021), it’s a nice step up from the QCS6490, with a faster CPU, GPU, and NPU and support for speedier memory, among other things.Radxa’s new board pairs that processor with support for up to 32GB of LPDDR4x-4266 onboard memory and a bunch of options for storage:1 x UFS 3.1 module connector1 x M.2 2280 connector (PCIe 3.0 x4)1 x M.2 2280 connector (PCIe 3.0 x2)1 x microSD card readerThere’s also an M.2 2230 E-Key slot for a wireless card and an FPC connector that provides a PCIe 3.0 single-lane connection for add-ons that won’t fit one of the board’s slots.Other ports and connectors include:2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps with video output)2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)2 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)1 x USB Type-C (power input only, 60W recommended)2 x 2.5 GbE LAN1 x HDMI1 x 3.5mm audio1 x mic input connector1 x 40-pin GPIO headerThere are also connectors on the board for an optional fan and RTC battery, as well as two buttons: one for power and one for entering EDL mode (for system recovery).Like most of Radxa’s boards with Arm-based processors, this model supports a variety of GNU/Linux distributions including the company’s own Radxa OS as well as Ubuntu, Armbian, and Arch Linux. But since it’s using a processor that was originally designed for Windows PCs, this is also one of the rare (at the moment) single-board PCs with an Arm-based processor that should support Windows 11.
