The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has evacuated another batch of 180 stranded Nigerian migrants from Libya amid growing concerns over the dangers associated with irregular migration routes.
The returnees, comprising mainly women and children, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard a chartered flight coordinated by the United Nations migration agency.
According to the IOM, many of the migrants endured harsh conditions in Libya, including detention, exploitation and prolonged uncertainty while attempting to migrate to Europe and other destinations through irregular channels.
In a statement issued after the evacuation, the agency said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable migrants and promote safer migration pathways.
