The Kremlin said Russia’s response to Ukrainian attacks is already “systemic,” after a large-scale drone strike hit targets in and around St. Petersburg. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday declined to outline any new retaliatory steps when asked how Moscow would respond to the strike on Russia’s second-largest city ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Instead, he pointed to earlier Foreign Ministry statements.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “I would like to remind you of the Foreign Ministry’s statement, which said that our responses will be systemic in nature. In fact, they already are systemic,” Peskov said, offering no further details. His comments suggested Moscow does not plan any new immediate response beyond its ongoing military campaign against Ukraine. The statement came after Ukrainian long-range drones struck the St. Petersburg oil terminal overnight, a key energy facility in northwestern Russia, triggering a large fire. Regional authorities said around 30 drones were intercepted over the area. President Volodymyr Zelensky later confirmed that multiple targets were hit in the operation, including the oil terminal, facilities linked to the Kronstadt naval base, and a weapons production site in Russia’s Tambov region. The distance from Ukraine’s border to St. Petersburg is roughly 1,100 kilometers (683 miles). Ukraine’s General Staff said the strike on Kronstadt was precise and resulted in damage to naval vessels and port infrastructure.
