TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tehran has strongly condemned U.S. attacks on an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a communications tower on Qeshm Island, while reaffirming Iran’s right to self-defense, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.In a statement carried by the semi-official Fars News Agency, as cited by Anadolu, the ministry said it “strongly condemns” what it described as an “aggressive action by the terrorist US military,” which targeted both the tanker and communications infrastructure.The ministry alleged that the attacks were launched early Wednesday from two regional countries, which it identified as Kuwait and Bahrain, accusing the United States of using the territory and facilities of these states to carry out military operations against Iran.It said Kuwait and Bahrain bear “direct and clear responsibility” for the incident.The Foreign Ministry said the attacks violated the April 8 ceasefire agreement and constituted a breach of international law, including Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states.“Any country that allows aggressor parties to use its land, sea or air territory, or facilities and bases located within its territory, to carry out or support military aggression against Iran, is in clear violation of fundamental rules of international law and the principle of good neighborliness,” it said.It added that under UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, such conduct is considered an act of aggression against Iran.The ministry also reaffirmed Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity using all available means.Regional tensions have escalated since late February after the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, which Tehran says killed more than 3,000 people, including senior military commanders, officials, and former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.A Pakistan-brokered ceasefire took effect on April 8, but efforts to reach a broader and more durable agreement have so far stalled.Read: Iran Prepares Large-Scale Funeral Procession for Ali Khamenei
