Facebook parent Meta Platforms is officially ending its “metaverse” experiment this month, after announcing the move in March.

In mid-March, Meta said its flagship Horizon Worlds VR social app would be removed from availability for its Quest VR headsets at the end of the month, with its VR worlds shutting down entirely on 15 June.

The social platform would continue only as a mobile experience after that, Meta said at the time, although chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth said the following day in a video on Instagram that VR support would continue for some features for the time being.
