Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) after the Andheri subway was flooded following light rainfall, alleging that it belied the corporation's claims about monsoon preparedness.“Monsoon has not yet set in but the subway in the western suburbs already went underwater after a few spells of rain,” she said. The Andheri subway is one of the perennial flooding-prone spots in the megapolis. The civic body's claims of spending crores of rupees on desilting of nullahs and drainage maintenance were exposed by the season's first showers, said Ms. Gaikwad."If this is the situation after a light rainfall, what will Mumbai's residents face during heavy monsoon downpours?" she asked.
