Adeyanju said he was writing from a position of respect and admiration for Jonathan's leadership record but felt compelled to caution him against seeking a return to active electoral politics.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has warned former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, to stay away from any potential presidential contest in 2027, warning that a return to partisan politics could damage the statesmanlike reputation he has built since leaving office.

In an open letter addressed to the former president, Adeyanju expressed concern over growing speculation linking the former president to a possible presidential bid on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeyanju said he was writing from a position of respect and admiration for Jonathan's leadership record but felt compelled to caution him against seeking a return to active electoral politics.

“I write to you as a well-wisher and someone who has long admired your leadership style and your commitment to democratic values,” Adeyanju said.
