A 40-year-old man was killed and his wife was injured after being run over by a speeding lorry when they were attempting to park their motorcycle on the roadside at Anekal in Bengaluru on June 2 morning.The deceased has been identified as Manjunath Reddy (40) of Harohalli near Huskur in Anekal taluk. His wife Pratibha (36) has been admitted to a private hospital at Bommasandra for advanced treatment.The accident occurred on Mirza Road near Apollo Medical Shop in Anekal town. The couple had come to Anekal to purchase agricultural medicines .According to police and witness accounts, the couple was on their motorcycle when a truck approached from behind. In an attempt to avoid the truck, Manjunath reportedly moved slightly to the left. However, the motorcycle collided with a two-wheeler that had been parked on the roadside, causing the couple to lose balance and fall onto the road.The motorcycle was trapped between a row of parked two-wheelers on one side and the passing truck on the other. The couple fell under the truck, which ran over them.Manjunath Reddy sustained severe injuries and died while being taken to a hospital.A witness, Muniraj Reddy, said several motorcycles had been parked in front of the medical shop. “The couple tried to make way when the truck approached from behind. Their bike hit one of the parked motorcycles, and they fell on the path of the truck. Though the driver stopped immediately, the couple were trapped under the wheels. We managed to pull them out,” he said.Local residents alleged significant delay in the arrival of the ambulance despite repeated calls immediately after the accident. They claimed the delay may have affected the victim’s chances of survival.Police shifted the injured to a hospital, inspected the site of the accident, and registered a case.
