MANILA, Philippines — A relieved Rizal provincial police officer and National Police Commission (Napolcom) Commissioner Rafael Calinisan on Wednesday had a heated exchange over whether the former’s arrest of a senior citizen following a road crash in Taguig City was justified.
Police Cpl. Simeon Suan arrested a 76-year-old man last Tuesday after both their vehicles were involved in a minor collision along Manuel L. Quezon Avenue in Barangay Bagumbayan.
A viral video shows Suan handcuffing the senior citizen and dragging him to his vehicle.
In a press briefing, Calinisan scolded Suan, “We have a problem if our policemen are like this. We really have a big problem. You should not have done it. That should’ve been reasonable force. The old man wouldn’t have done anything.”
