The mother of slain Limpopo teenager Nhlamulo Sambo has alleged that her son was targeted because he was Tsonga, as she demanded answers following the 19-year-old's fatal stabbing in Mossel Bay.

Speaking to Eden FM, Patricia Sambo recounted what she was allegedly told about the moments leading up to her son's death, describing a family devastated by grief and struggling to understand why he was killed.

According to her, another boy who was allegedly with Nhlamulo at the time of the incident later told the family that he had been hiding behind a door. At the same time, Nhlamulo had allegedly concealed himself near a cupboard.

"When that boy came here, he [allegedly] said he was behind the door. My boy was hiding [allegedly] somewhere where there was a cupboard. So, I don't know what happened.

"The other boy, they [allegedly] never touched him because he is a Xhosa. That boy of mine, [allegedly] because he is a Tsonga from Limpopo, was killed," she told the broadcaster.
