The fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Nhlamulo Sambo in the Western Cape has ignited a fierce political and social debate.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Naledi Chirwa and March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma engaged in a heated public debate over immigration, tribalism, and political rhetoric in South Africa following the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Nhlamulo Sambo in Mossel Bay.
However, in a twist of events, Western Cape police yesterday dismissed claims that Sambo was targeted during anti-immigration protests, saying their preliminary investigations point to a different motive.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said Sambo was confronted while allegedly attempting to steal items from a shack.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Christopher Spies said officers found the teenager with a stab wound to the chest after responding to a complaint.
