Arsenal finally achieved “the big dream” by winning the Premier League this season, so what now?Work has begun on making the dream of retaining that title and finally winning the Champions League a reality next year.Manager Mikel Arteta made his thoughts clear on what is needed this summer to give his side the best chance of going again immediately after the loss to Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.“We’re going to have to show that ambition because they (his team) are more than capable of doing it, but it’s going to demand us to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart,” he said.Speaking directly about PSG in the aftermath, Arteta also said: “They are, in my opinion, the best team in the world. What they are able to do with the ball, with individual actions, I haven’t seen.”While Arsenal proved to be England’s best team in 2025-26, there are still strides to be made in this regard. But are they ready to do it? What changes are needed? As reported in The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet on Tuesday, the ambition to add more individuality to Arsenal’s attack has already come to the fore with their interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, PSG’s Bradley Barcola, Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi and Ajax’s Mika Godts.Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga is also of interest, but at 16 years old, the other quartet of names are more first-team ready.Of the four, Rogers is possibly the most exciting Arsenal target.Their interest dates back to last summer, but it was in a match between Villa and Arsenal in August 2024 when Rogers really made onlookers pay attention. That afternoon, his technical security and strength while dribbling past Declan Rice and Thomas Partey raised eyebrows. That day also served as a crucial turning point in Rogers’ career, as he told The Athletic last month: “I was playing against some of the best players in the world and Arsenal were competing for the title. They were players I watched on television when I was in the Championship or in League One. Being able to match them toe-to-toe, physically, with and without the ball, I just got that feeling: ‘Yeah, I can do this’.”Rogers’ confidence in the two years since has exploded, making him one of the most entertaining players to watch in the Premier League. Not only because of his ball-carrying ability under pressure, but also his willingness to shoot from range. He was a direct contributor to Villa’s expected-goals overperformance this season while outperforming his own xG tally of 6.83 by three in the league (10).“If you look at the chances and shots we are hitting, they are good options to take,” he told Sky Sports halfway through the season. “We are not taking pot-luck shots, and they are well within our rights to take.”Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi supplied some special long-range finishes for Arsenal this season, but adding more players with that ability cannot hurt.Rogers’ three goals from outside the box ranked joint-second in the Premier League this season, while Kroupi’s two ranked joint-third.When the two penalties Kroupi scored are taken away, his Premier League numbers are as follows: 11 goals from a non-penalty xG of 6.77 (a 4.23 over-performance).One of his long-range strikes arrowed away from David Raya when Arsenal visited the Vitality Stadium in January, while the other was a low dipper against Nottingham Forest in October. The variety in the 19-year-old’s play is what stands out, aside from the volume of goals. As his shot map above shows, he can find space in the six-yard box but also arrive around the penalty spot to apply a finishing touch. Of those finishes, another standout attribute is how quickly he is able to sort out his feet between his first touch and the shot. Below are two examples of how he does so nicely with both feet.Other than in Gabriel Jesus’ first six months at Arsenal, the constant toil for Arteta has been to find a forward who has a blend of skills. At first, someone who offered a mix of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s abilities felt necessary, and it is a similar case with Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz now — particularly if Arsenal manage to sell Jesus this summer.Kroupi fits the bill with his goalscoring, his ability to drop into pockets to allow others to burst forward, and also his willingness to meet the pressing demands of former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.Barcola may have been the cause of nerves for Arsenal late on in the Champions League final, but could offer something different on Arteta’s left wing.On the right wing, Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka average 2.1 and 2 successful dribbles per 90 minutes. On the left, Gabriel Martinelli (contract expiring in 2027, albeit with the option of an additional year) and Leandro Trossard (contract expiring in 2027) average 1.8 and 1.1 respectively.Barcola averaged 1.85 in Ligue 1 this season, but the eye-test contributes to the difference in feeling when watching him play.As seen below, the intention in his first touches being to use them to flick the ball behind defenders and then beat them for pace is refreshing to see, even if the final product can use some work. While the 23-year-old may not be suited to playing against deep blocks, he is part of a PSG team who average 68.8 per cent possession in Ligue 1, and having someone who can stretch the play as he did against Arsenal in the Champions League final could be useful. His inconsistent finishing has been highlighted both this season and last with high-profile misses against Arsenal, but in Ligue 1 this year, Barcola has scored as many goals as you would expect from his chances (11 from an xG tally of 10.9).Just one league assist is disappointing, but his expected assists (xA) tally of 4.5 betters that of Rogers, who made six league assists from an xA of 4.3. Rogers and Barcola are different types of players, but the way each of them travels upfield with the ball could also help Arsenal make better use of counter-attacking situations.Last season they ranked sixth for fast breaks in the Premier League, with a tally just 0.23 behind Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola’s side scored nine goals from these situations compared to Arsenal’s four.Whether it be the direct ball-carrying of Rogers, the sharper bursts from Barcola, or the elegant gliding of Godts (who boasted 2.85 successful dribbles per 90 this season), each target could help in these situations. From a finishing perspective, three of Bournemouth’s nine goals from fast breaks last season were scored by Kroupi.More in-depth analysis of each player will come, should moves materialise, but for now, the prospective attackers on Arsenal’s shopping list are impressive. They all have the ability to go on the inside and outside of defenders, while possessing something unique from each other and Arsenal’s existing options, which could help elevate them next season.Arteta has always built a strong defensive foundation for his Arsenal sides. That foundation, with a sprinkling of magical attacking moments, won them the Premier League title. Not too much needs to change, but now it seems the Arsenal manager is ready to take the handbrake off to try to retain the title in style and go a step further in Europe.
