New figures show house values are just 1.6% below their peak, while the Auckland and Wellington markets remain subdued.
ANZ's economists have looked at what house prices might do into the longer-term future in their most recent property report.
“It’s the property equivalent of a Black Friday sale for buyers, particularly first-time buyers,” said one expert.
Plus, the region with the largest post-peak drop of any territorial authority in the country, and its not Wellington City.
Investors are coming back to the market too.
Rents have risen at a national level for the first time since November - but places such as Wellington are still recording drops.
