It’s not just Six60 making noise in Christchurch. New figures show the city’s housing market is bucking national trends, fuelled by what one expert calls an “avalanche” of new arrivals - three in four from outside the region.
Values are almost back to peak levels, latest data from Cotality shows. That’s compared to Auckland and Wellington, where values remain well below historic highs.
“There’s a real buzz around Canterbury at the moment... Christchurch city is setting the tempo in the market,” said Vanessa Williams, spokesperson for realestate.co.nz.
“Many property seekers are looking at options in Canterbury as they can often get more for their dollar than they would in other main centres.”
Website traffic backs this up. Some three-quarters of people looking at Christchurch property on realestate.co.nz are from elsewhere, Williams said..
