At Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Haiti 4 (Ruben Providence 12’, Lenny Joseph 51’, Frantzdy Pierrot 62’, Duke Lacroix 87’) All Whites 0. HT: 1-0
The All Whites’ worst result in nine years has left them with plenty to digest and plenty to work on less than a fortnight out from their return to the FIFA World Cup.
After losing 4-0 to world No 83 Haiti at Inter Miami Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday night (Wednesday NZ time) world No 85 New Zealand now face world No 4 England on Saturday (Sunday NZ time) in Tampa.
Their second warm-up match in Florida, against one of the title contenders, is unlikely to provide much opportunity for them to generate the shots that were lacking here.
They will certainly need to be far, far better defensively than they were in losing by four for the first time since their 4-0 loss to Portugal at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
