The deal includes $42 million guaranteed and ties Herbig to Pittsburgh through the 2030 season.Herbig, 24, was set to enter the fourth and final year of his rookie deal, a time when the Steelers historically like to lock up players longer term. Hebig communicated his situation early and had lunch with new head coach Mike McCarthy in Arizona in March. However, Herbig did not attend the first two weeks of OTAs. As mandatory minicamp began Tuesday, Herbig held himself out of most drills other than a few walk-through-paced installs. After practice, Herbig was asked if it was his desire to get a new contract.“It’s my desire to be a Steeler for life,” he said.Less than three hours after he made that statement, the news of the new contract became public.Jun 2, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
