The pair were famous in the 1980s, before Mel died of cancer in 1990 aged 23.Pausing in front of the display, Angellica said: "There are wonderful memories here for everyone, but this one is all mine. This for me gives me goosebumps. It's as if I'm in a time warp. I'm going back..."The moves, their energy, and for a young black girl, having the visuals.""It's nostalgic," she added, as Jacqueline asked: "Are you crying?""It's making me emotional," the TV star said as she nodded. "Love it."As they walked around the exhibition the pair also looked at a Banksy-designed vest that was worn by Stormzy when he took to the stage at Glastonbury in 2019."The fact that we're standing in front of a stab vest, there's something deeply unsettling about this, and what the vest itself is telling us about is there a possibility that we have become desensitised to the ubiquity of violence and who the victims of knife crime are," the curator said."And when we have terms like black on black or inner city, how that kind of nullifies the enormity of the seriousness of it."Article continues belowDescribing the exhibition in the segment, Angellica said: "From soul to ska, lover's rock to grime, black music has helped shape the sound of Britain... The Music is Black brings together 125 years of underground movement and global moments through artefacts like instruments, photography, and fashion.""It's just being able to show so clearly how there's a jigsaw, there's a vertebra that connects us all, but with the very art form that we're here to celebrate, and that's music," added curator Jacqueline. The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.BBCThe One Show
