Jenny Mollen is facing criticism after she posted an Instagram photo of herself lying on top of her 12-year-old son, accompanied by a questionable caption. The 47-year-old author — who shares two children with ex Jason Biggs — recently shared a picture of herself hugging her son Sid on a bed, with her arms around the back of his head. The pair’s faces, which couldn’t be seen in the photos, were pressed close together, and Sid had his arms and legs wrapped around his mother. In a second photo, the author was again lying on top of her son, who had linked his fingers in front of his mom’s face. Mollen wrote in the since-deleted caption: “Your eldest son will be the most toxic guy you ever date.”Many critics flooded the comments on her post, claiming it was inappropriate, with someone writing: “Saw the original post with the original caption. Super weird. And I have boys the same age. And yes, we hug and cuddle, but that caption was creepy AF.”Jenny Mollen shared a photo of herself hugging her son on Instagram, alongside what critics called a ‘creepy’ caption (@jennymollen / Instagram)“Hugging your kids: Healthy and encouraged. Calling your child your boyfriend and posting photos of you lying between their legs on a bed: Not healthy or encouraged,” another wrote. “Your child is not your boyfriend. A boyfriend is a romantic partner.”“My son is almost 12 and is very attached and snuggly but girl, this is weird??? This will be on the internet forever. Think about how your son will feel about this in a few years,” a third added. “This is so disturbing,” a fourth wrote, while another said, “I hate everything about this.”Mollen addressed the backlash last week on her Instagram Story, saying she was “shocked” by the response. “It’s like, because I'm getting separated, because I'm not protected by the institution of marriage, I'm suddenly like a different kind of target in what I'm posting. Like this is absolutely jaw-dropping. A photo of me hugging my 12-year-old child is getting ridiculed,” she wrote, according to Entertainment Weekly. She also said that people wouldn’t understand the now-deleted caption in her post “unless you have a son that makes you do things that you would never, ever, ever do for another man.”Jenny Mollen shares two kids with her ex Jason Biggs (Getty)The Independent has contacted Mollen for comment. The author’s Instagram photos came days after she announced her split from Biggs, after 18 years of marriage. Along with Sid, Mollen and the American Pie star share an eight-year-old son, Lazlo. Following the breakup, Mollen revealed in an essay on her Substack, titled “Don’t Tell Me What It Is,” that she was taking a trip. “I leave for Italy on Wednesday, which sounds soooo Eat, Pray, Love considering the current state of my life,” she wrote, referring to Elizabeth Gilbert’s 2006 memoir about her year-long solo journey after a divorce. “But I’m not going to find myself or sleep with some beautiful Italian stranger. I already have two half-Italians at home. I’m actually just going because a friend invited me to her birthday party. It also happens to be my birthday as well.”
