The Deputy for Social and Cultural Affairs of Tehran Municipality announced on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, that funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei will be held in three cities: Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad.

According to a report by IRNA, Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh said during the 52nd meeting of the Cultural and Social Commission of Iranian Metropolises that, in accordance with Ali Khamenei’s will, his burial site will be inside the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.

He added that various provinces had requested to host the funeral procession. However, ceremonies have so far been finalized only for Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad, and are expected to take place in the final days of Dhu al-Hijjah and the beginning of Muharram, approximately two weeks from now.

According to the Tehran deputy mayor, a three-day farewell program has been planned for the event, and the procession in Tehran will continue for at least 24 hours. Tavakolizadeh also noted that, given the anticipated attendance of participants from regional countries, individuals from Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, and Kashmir are expected to be present in Mashhad.

Referring to requests submitted by various groups and factions to participate in the ceremonies, he said estimates point to widespread attendance by citizens and foreign guests.
