The Kadapa district police on Tuesday arrested two ganja peddlers, including a home guard, and seized 2 kg of contraband from their possession.Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) K. Prakash Babu told the media that the two accused were on the surveillance radar of the department for a long time and their arrest was the result of sustained monitoring.Following a tip-off, Chinna Chowk police Circle Inspector (CI) B. Ramakrishna Reddy arrested the duo in Prakash Nagar area of the city on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Katigandla Ramesh Babu (46), a home guard working with the Command Control centre, and Chilakala Chan Basha (37).According to the police, Ramesh Babu used to travel regularly to Odisha border to procure high-quality ganja, which he sold at a high price to local sub-dealers in Kadapa. As Chan Basha was a regular buyer, his wife, Subbamma alias Pyari, confessed to procuring the ganja from Ramesh Babu.The two accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, produced before a local court, and remanded to judicial custody.
