A three-day training programme for district level officers for the first phase of Census 2027 commenced here on Tuesday. Collector C.Dinesh Kumar chaired the meeting.The 15th Census was held on 2011. The 16th Census that was slated to be conducted in 2021 was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.Now, the first phase of the 16th Census is scheduled to be carried out from August 1 to August 31. As part of the exercise, self-enumeration for Census is scheduled to be carried out from August 17 to August 31, 2026.According to the Collector, this is also the first time self-enumeration is being introduced into the Census exercise. The enumerators will download the software onto their android phones and do the enumeration.Krishnagiri district is being divided into rural and urban. For the rural, tahsildar has been appointed as the charge officer; for the urban, the municipal/Corporation Commissioner has been designated as charge officer. As of date, 15 charge officers for Krishnagiri (Rural) and Krishnagiri (Urban) have been appointed.The training programme is for the charge officers, technical assistants, enumerator, supervisor and field trainer.
