DEAD: Micah Joseph
At the Joseph residence on Monday, the Express met several relatives who were mourning the loss of the young father, and were hopeful that the police would arrest the perpetrator who had fled the scene and remains at large. The stabbings occurred on Easy Street where the mother of the victim’s children resides, Joseph’s relatives said.Joseph’s sister, Elizabeth, said her brother and the mother of his children broke off their relationship about a year ago, and his children would spend weekends with him.She said, “On Sunday, he went to meet the children’s mother to return his children. A week before, she told him that she needed money for graduation. When he went to drop the children (on Sunday) I heard there was an altercation with a man. Most of the times when he drop things for the children, the things would get thrown back in his face, or he pelt down with stones. Once he got a cut on his foot and he reported it to the police. He loved his children so he would try his best.”The sister said Joseph returned to drop the money when another altercation occurred.“My little brother (Joshua) and a neighbour went with him (Joseph) to make sure there was no altercation, just to hand over the money. But he (Joseph) ended up staying and talking to the children. I heard that the person locked his neck and slit his throat, and stabbed him. The children saw their father die. The children were trying to shake him to wake him up. The neighbours had to pull the children off him,” said the sister.Elizabeth said she believed the fatal incident should not have happened. “This could have been avoided,” she said.Police said the suspect fled before responding officers arrived, but enquiries are continuing into the incident under the supervision of detectives of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations of Region III.
